Whether you like to have an occasional browse of its bougie shelves or get your groceries from there on the reg, there’s a reason Waitrose is Britain’s third favourite supermarket. It might be a bit more spenny, but where else will you find a sushi bar, Gail’s sourdough and cheese counters all under one roof?
Now, the supermarket has announced plans to open 100 brand new Little Waitrose shops across the UK over the next five years. Sure, they might not have all the exciting counters you find in a regular Waitrose, but you’ll still find a bunch of fresh groceries and posh products. And don’t they just sound adorable?
Alongside four full-sized stores, it’s the first time that Waitrose is opening new branches since 2018. The ambitions are part of a huge £1 billion investment that will also cover the expansion and refurbishment of existing stores. Apparently it’s chosen to focus on the smaller shops because they’re a ‘fast-growing channel and an area we can extend at a reasonable pace’.
Waitrose hasn’t confirmed all 100 locations or exact opening dates yet. The only two we know about so far will both be in London, but we’ll keep this list updated as and when we find out more.
