How is Team GB doing at the Paralympics?

It’s been a good year for British sports. Sure, we haven’t been winning things per se, but we’ve been giving it our darn best efforts. England came second at the Euros, Andy Murray waved goodbye to tennis for good, and Team GB ended up in the top ten of the Olympics medal table. Not too shabby at all.

But wait — there’s more. The Paralympics, which began last Wednesday (August 28) and will go on until Sunday (September 8) is the last huge sporting event of the season, and we’re actually doing pretty well. Team GB is currently second in terms of medals, and by quite some way. We’ve already won a grand total of 49 in total compared to the USA, who are third, at 36.

Of that number, more than half are gold. What a ratio, eh? Our best sport by far is para-swimming, where eight British athletes have taken  home a total of eleven gold medals. Maybe being an island has its perks after all.

We also achieved five golds on the cycle track, and three in rowing. This is already a record-breaking year for us at the Paralympics, and there’s still an entire week to go. Here’s your entire rundown of British medals so far.
