Mickael Barzalona Produces Ride Of The Year In Prix du Moulin

French jockey Mickael Barzalona produced one of the rides of the season aboard outsider Tribalist to land the Group 1 Prix du Moulin on Sunday afternoon.

Tribalist denied the well-faniced Charyn a third Group 1 win in the Prix du Moulin on Sunday, thanks to a terrific ride from Mickael Barzalona.

The British and Irish raiders were nowhere to be seen as Barzalona had Tribalist cruising in-front. He sat motionless aboard the eventual winner without asking the horse for an effort until the final couple of furlongs.

Roger Varian’s stable star Charyn eventually rallied for 2nd, but it was all too late as Barzalona had already slipped the field. Aidan O’Brien’s Henry Longfellow and Sussex Stakes winner Notable Speech finished 3rd and 5th respectively.

Andre Fabre’s charge broke well from the stalls and was ridden positively to the front of the pack by his jockey, and didn’t see another rival until after the line.

Having never threatened in such hot company before, Tribalist was the big outsider of the field at 25/1. This was the five-year-old’s 9th win from 21 races in a career best effort.

Despite not being so fancied prior to the race with the best horse racing betting sites, the Godolphin-owned horse had plenty in his favour.

This horse has made all from the front before, winning on both soft and heavy ground. So with not much early pace on, Barzalona sent his charge forward early on and it paid off.

British Still Enjoyed Longchamp Success

Whilst the big race didn’t see a British horse win, there was still a couple of wins for trainers coming over to the French capital on Sunday.

John and Thady Gosden’s smart prospect Ombudsman won the Group 3 Prix du Prince d’Orange to make it four wins from four career starts.

The next contest also saw the British succeed as young trainer Jack Channon won his first Group race with Certain Lad.

But the moment of the day was certainly the ride given to Tribalist by Mickael Barzalona
