Iberdrola has made a new purchase in the UK, following the acquisition of Electricity North West (ENW) at the beginning of August. The company chaired by Ignacio Galán has acquired the technology company Derryherk through ScottishPower, its British subsidiary. 

The acquired company’s technology improves the data connectivity of ScottishPower’s grid through innovative problem detection, capacity constraint forecasting and active management of the low-voltage grid.

The acquisition of Derryherk comes after the two companies have developed a commercial alliance and will contribute to the integration of the developed technology into ScottishPower’s grid, supporting the zero-emission ambitions of Iberdrola’s UK subsidiary. 

The transaction also boosts Iberdrola’s growth in the UK through its ScottishPower business, with an investment of £12 billion (around €14.4 billion) committed between 2024 and 2028.

Since acquiring ScottishPower in 2007, Iberdrola has invested around £30 billion (EUR 36 billion) in the UK.

ScottishPower’s network keeps electricity flowing 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to more than 3.5 million homes and businesses across central and southern Scotland and Merseyside, Cheshire, north and mid Wales, and north Shropshire.

With the purchase of ENW, the UK will become the company’s number one country by network asset base, with around EUR 14 billion, followed by the US with EUR 13.3 billion.
