Both of Sue Smith’s break returners who were highlighted in this column as horses to oppose at Market Rasen yesterday were unplaced, despite attracting very strong market support. Rialannah finished fourth as the 6-4 favourite, while Taras Hall (15-8 favourite) trailed home fifth of the six runners. Since 2013, had we backed the yard’s chasers/hurdlers from June to November who had been off the track for more than 90 days we’d have found only nine winners from 291 bets (3% strike-rate) for a loss of £180.50 to a £1 level stake at SP and we get the chance to oppose another on this angle today – CERENDIPITY. The lightly raced seven-year-old is zero from three on her seasonal debuts, finishing a 24-length fourth of seven (12-1), 13-length fifth of 13 (20-1) and 15.5-length third of eight (7-2). It’s likely that he’ll need this run – his first since scoring at Bangor in April – and he can be sold in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market. VINATGE FIZZ has a useful record on left-handed tracks and good prove to be the best each-way angle for fixed odds players.

THE KEMBLE BREWERY won at the first time of asking in the 2022/23 jumps season when 11-4 favourite for a Huntingdon bumper and he maintained his 100% record on his seasonal debuts when landing a Class 2 bumper at Cheltenham last October. Kim Bailey’s five-year-old failed to live up to market expectations on his hurdles debut the following month – finishing third as the 4-7 favourite – but the race may have come to soon and the subsequent absence suggests that there may have been a physical issue too. He returns fresh for this 2m novices’ hurdle and could prove hard to beat. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.
