EXPORT-READY Jamaican businesses can look to the United Kingdom (UK) for opportunities in manufacturing, global digital services and the agribusiness sectors. Regional Manager for the European Regional Office at the Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO), Laurence Jones, said that while foreign investment opportunities are being pursued, Jamaican goods and services are in growing demand.
In a recent interview with the Jamaica Information Service, Jones said, “JAMPRO’s collaboration with the International Trade Centre will open doors for Jamaican digital service firms to connect with European buyers, ushering in a new era of digital commerce and connectivity.”
In the agribusiness sector, JAMPRO’s market research indicates that UK consumers are increasingly health-conscious and desire the convenience of online food shopping. The UK’s food industry is also projected to reach £14.5 billion by 2025, with Caribbean food gaining traction with a value of nearly £100 million.
JAMPRO’s market intelligence report also identifies opportunities in the UK’s cosmetics industry, particularly in the Afro haircare market, which serves 16 per cent of the population, with demands for multi-ethnic brands.
JAMPRO, as Jamaica’s export and investment promotion agency under the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce, aims to support local businesses in expanding their exports.
Currently, export-ready businesses are supported by a suite of services, including market penetration and business matchmaking. Ministerial business missions into traditional and new markets are also coordinated by JAMPRO and led by Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Senator Aubyn Hill.
Commenting on the organisation’s role in facilitating investments that grow the nation’s economy, Jones said, “Jamaica’s prime location as a gateway to the Americas positions it as a safe haven for European businesses looking to expand their reach across the Western Hemisphere.”
He shared that plans are in the pipeline to introduce shore power systems at the island’s major ports through an investment project, promising significant environmental and economic benefits for Jamaica.
Business owners are encouraged to engage JAMPRO’s services for guidance and support to help realise their expansion plans into foreign markets. For more information, email info@dobusinessjamaica.com.
