Bournemouth vs. Arsenal lineups, expected starting 11, confirmed team news and injuries: Saka ready after England setback? | Sporting News United Kingdom

Arsenal will look to apply some pressure to Liverpool and Manchester City by going top of the Premier League with a win at Bournemouth.

The Gunners’ expected title rivals are not in action until Sunday this weekend, meaning they can put a marker down in the Saturday kickoff at the Vitality Stadium.

City and Arsenal remain the only two undefeated teams in the top flight after seven matches, a record Mikel Arteta’s side preserved by coming from behind to beat Southampton before the international break.

Any team will have a considerable way to go to top Bournemouth’s incredible 3-2 heist at Everton for comeback of the season but Andoni Iraola’s men haven’t built effectively on their Goodison Park triumph and have lost three of their past four.

Arteta is once again waiting on the fitness of Bukayo Saka after his star winger limped out of England’s defeat to Greece and withdrew from the subsequent UEFA Nations League win over Finland. Interim Three Lions boss Lee Carsley suggested Saka’s problem is not serious – a prognosis the Arsenal manager repeated at his Friday news conference.

“It’s not a serious injury,” he said. “He’s evolving really well. He’s done a few things in the last two days. He wasn’t fit enough to play with the national team in the second game but we are hopeful. We have a training session this afternoon, he did some bits yesterday, so let’s see if he can make it on time.”

Fellow wide attacker Gabriel Martinelli looks like a far bigger doubt after sustaining a calf injury while away with Brazil.

Kai Havertz missed Germany’s games with a knee issue but is likely to be fit to start at centre-forward, while Ben White and Jurrien Timber are pushing to return after missing the Southampton match. Mikel Merino might make a full Arsenal debut after building match fitness with Spain.

Oleksandr Zinchenko is almost ready to return from a calf injury, with Thomas Partey likely to feature after withdrawing from the Ghana squad due to illness. Martin Odegaard (ankle), Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney (hamstring) remain out, although the club captain might come back next week.

Arsenal predicted XI (4-3-3, right to left): GK) Raya — White, Gabriel, Saliba, Calafiori — Partey, Merino, Rice —Saka, Havertz, Trossard

Injured: Martinelli (doubt), Saka (doubt), Odegaard, Tierney, Tomiyasu, Zinchenko (doubt)
