Passengers have been caught in severe delays at London Waterloo after train delays due to a fallen tree blocking railways.

Footage from the station appears to show a huge crowd squeezed onto the station concourse tonight.

One passenger wrote about the scenes at Waterloo on X: ‘Just back from travels, welcome to the UK.

‘No announcements, platform guesswork and general chaos.’

Another passenger described their journey as ‘utter farce.’

They claimed travellers boarded a train only to be told there would be no driver until 6.30pm, so passengers were advised to get on another train.

‘Mad rush & crush to get on that. Then told no driver for that until 18:45 so [to] get back on original train. Utter farce’

South Western Railway services between London Waterloo and Weymouth, between Winchester, Southampton Central and Bournemouth and also between Brockenhurst and Lymington Pier were among the affected.

National Rail said: ‘Following a tree blocking the railway between Southampton Central and Bournemouth all lines have reopened. As service recovers, trains may still be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.’
