One of the hot topics heading into the January transfer window next month is the fate of Diego Leon, Cerro Porteño’s exciting left-winger who has yet to turn 18 years of age.
On the radars of a number of leading clubs, Leon has been linked to a move to Manchester United — and that link strengthened on Thursday amid reports United fans will receive really well.
Amid multiple reports this week that he could join United for as little as £3.1 million ($3.93 million) and that talks are being held, leading beat reporter Fabrizio Romano says the deal is “almost done”, teasing Red Devils followers with a version of his catchphrase.
“Here we go, soon,” said Romano.

Diego Leon biography, age, position, stats
Born in Ygauzu, Paraguay in April 2007, Leon plays as a left wing-back or winger.
He is regarded as one of the top 20 17-year-olds in football by Transfermarkt, on a list topped by Barcelona star Lamine Yamal.
In 2024, the youngster’s performances have been met with acclaim, and he’s also scored two goals despite his position not being that of a traditional contributor to the scoresheets.
Diego Leon comments on Manchester United rumours
The teen showed media maturity beyond his years when asked about the link to England recently.
“I have a huge expectation to play the Libertadores 2025,” he said in response to Deportes Uno.
“I’ve seen about Manchester United’s enquiry about me, but I don’t know anything. Everything is handled by my agent.”
