The Ascot racecourse weather forecast has been a hot topic this week as the Berkshire track are staging one of their biggest flat meetings of the year – British Champions Day – on Saturday.
With a lot of rain in the Ascot, Berkshire area in midweek, this has impacted the ground conditions as horse racing punters now look for performers that have proven form on soft or heavy ground.
We look at the upcoming Ascot racecourse weather forecast and what the state of play is surrounding the Ascot Champions Day going and ground.
Ascot Champions Day Going and Ground Conditions
- Going: Soft
- Going Stick: Inner flat course 6.8, Straight 6.3
Ascot To Use Inner Track For 2024 Champions Day Meeting
With the Ascot racecourse going described as heavy, soft in places – the track has moved the opening race, the Long Distance Cup (1:15pm) and also the Fillies and Mares Stakes (2:35pm) from the round course to the slightly tighter inner flat course.
The going on the inner flat track and the straight track is reported to be ‘soft’ with clerk of the course at Ascot Chris Stickels saying.
“The going on the straight course is soft and also soft on the inner Flat course and races have switched to the inner Flat course from the round course, as heavy featured in the going description this morning.
“As per the race conditions, that means we can switch them at this point.”
This move does shorten the distance slightly for these two races, with the Long Distance Cup now 82 yards shorter and the Champion Fillies & Mares Stakes runners having 78 yards less to run over.
The star-studded meeting will feature eight runners from the powerful Irish stable of Aidan O’Brien – who is looking for his first winner at the fixture since 2019.
