Barcelona eyes Marcus Rashford in surprising January move | Sporting News United Kingdom

Barcelona could be on the verge of shaking up the January transfer window.

Reports (via Football Insider) suggest the Catalan giants are preparing a move for Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, who appears to be seeking a fresh start away from Old Trafford.

Rashford, the United academy graduate and one of the club’s longest-serving players, has found himself on the sidelines under new head coach Ruben Amorim.

The 27-year-old hasn’t featured in the Red Devils’ last three matchday squads, fueling speculation about his future. The England forward has made over 420 appearances for Manchester United, scoring 138 goals and providing 63 assists.

However, this season has been challenging, with Rashford netting only seven goals in 24 games. His desire for a new challenge, coupled with United’s struggles, has opened the door to a potential departure.

One thing which can stop Barcelona to go for Rashford in January

Barcelona’s interest in Rashford is real but comes with complications. The club’s financial struggles and Rashford’s hefty contract — believed to exceed £350,000 per week — make the deal difficult.

Sources indicate Barcelona may pursue a loan deal, similar to how United sent Jadon Sancho to Borussia Dortmund last season.

While a mid-season permanent transfer is reportedly “highly unlikely,” United seems open to letting Rashford leave on loan to regain form and market value.

Rashford’s long-term contract, running until 2028, gives the club some leverage in negotiations.

The Saudi Pro League is also rumored to be an option for Rashford, but reports suggest the player is reluctant to make that move. For now, Barcelona remains his most likely destination, should a deal be finalized.
