Blackpink Makes History As FIRST K-Pop Girl Group To Earn BRIT Gold Certification In UK
Blackpink have made history yet again! While the all four members are currently busy with solo activities, the iconic girl group has achieved an exciting first in the United Kingdom.
Blackpink makes history with THE ALBUM
The British Phonographic Industry (BPI) recently announced that Blackpink’s first studio album THE ALBUM has earned an official gold BRIT certification. According to the BPI’s certifications, albums are certified gold when over 100,000 units are sold. With this achievement, Blackpink has become the first female K-pop artist ever to go gold with an album in the United Kingdom.
About THE ALBUM
Released in October 2020, The Album is Blackpink’s first full-length album. Consisting of eight songs, namely, How You Like That, Ice Cream (with Selena Gomez), Pretty Savage, Bet You Wanna (featuring Cardi B), Lovesick Girls, Crazy Over You, Love to Hate Me andYou Never Know, the album explores the themes of love and the complexities of growing up. According to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), THE ALBUM was the fifth best-selling album worldwide in pure sales in 2020.
On the work front
On December 29 last year, YG Entertainment confirmed that all four members of Blackpink had signed under the label only for group promotions and not for solo activities. “BLACKPINK recently renewed their contracts with YG for their group activities, and we have agreed not to proceed with additional contracts for individual activities,” the label stated.
While Jennie established her own agency OA (ODD ATELIER) and revealed plans to release her first full-length solo album by the end of 2024, Lisa as well as Jisoo also launched their solo labels and are currently focusing on their acting careers. As for Rosé, the singer is yet to reveals her future plans.
