Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca believes his side will “dominate English football for the next five to 10 years.”

The Italian was appointed as Mauricio Pochettino’s replacement at Stamford Bridge in July, following an immense season at Leicester City, and he has enjoyed a successful first few months in charge.

The Blues are currently fourth in the Premier League table, having picked up 18 points from their opening 10 matches, while they have won all three of their Europa Conference League fixtures so far this campaign.

Furthermore, Chelsea have set a new record for the most goals scored in the first three group stage games of a major European competition, having netted on 16 occasions against Gent, Panathinaikos and Noah.

The west London giants have been widely slammed for their controversial transfer policy since Clearlake Capital’s arrival in 2022, with the club hoarding youngsters in a bid to ensure they are capable of consistently challenging for major honours over the next few decades.

Marcus Bettinelli is the only player in Chelsea’s senior squad over the age of 27, while they comfortably have the youngest average starting XI in the Premier League so far this season.

However, Maresca believes Chelsea’s strategy will soon lead to domination in the English game.

What has Enzo Maresca said?

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Chelsea’s crunch Premier League clash against Arsenal, Maresca revealed his honest thoughts on the youthful side at his disposal.

“It’s exciting,” he said. “The first time I met the club, I said, ‘No matter if l’m going to be the manager or not, for the next 5-10 years, because of the squad and age, you are [going to] dominate English football.’”

Chelsea haven’t won the Premier League title since 2016, while their last domestic trophy was the 2018 FA Cup.
