Raw bank data from over 300,000 consumers, collected by the Department of Trust (DoT), has found gambling accounts for 10.69% of UK consumers’ leisure spend each month. This report explores bettor spending habits and how gambling fits within their overall leisure budgets.
Industry data often flags increasing gambling spending habits among UK players, but detailed bank transaction data from 304,022 UK consumers shows gamblers are spending more on entertainment media subscriptions and food deliveries.
The data focuses on consumers who made at least one payment to a UK-licensed gambling operator (excluding the National Lottery) between 1 April 2023 and 1 April 2024. Over this period, these consumers collectively deposited a net total of £150.8 million with gambling operators.
