Diane Abbott said she is “dismayed” at the possibility that she could be barred from standing for Labour in the general election.
She said: “Naturally I am delighted to have the Labour whip restored and to be a member of the PLP (Parliamentary Labour Party). […] I will be campaigning for a Labour victory. But I am very dismayed that numerous reports suggest I have been barred as a candidate.”
When asked, “do you feel comfortable about what’s happened here with Diane Abbott?”, Labour shadow health secretary Wes Streeting replied: “No, not particularly.”
Wednesday marks one week since the election was called and comes with the announcement of more policy pledges. Rishi Sunak says he will scrap “bad” degrees in order to fund more apprenticeships, while Labour has promised to “clear” the NHS backlog within five years.
