Several countries including Canada and the UAE have issued warnings to their citizens living or visiting the UK in light on ongoing protests. There have been violent riots and protests following the fatal stabbing in Southport on July 29.
There have been anti-immigration protests across several towns and cities in recent days. Many of them have targeted mosques or hotels housing asylum seekers. Large demonstrations were expected on Wednesday August 7, instead rallies against the riots gathered.
Following the unrest several countries across the world have issued travel warnings for the UK. These include Nigeria, Malaysia, Kenya, Australia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, UAE, Canada and India.

The High Commission of India issued an advisory for Indian Citizens visiting the UK on August 6. The statement said: “Indian travellers would be aware of recent disturbances in some parts of the United Kingdom. The High Commission of India in London is closely monitoring the situation.
“Visitors from India are advised to stay vigilant and exercise due caution while travelling in the UK. It is advisable to follow local news and advisories issued by local security agencies, and to avoid areas where protests are underway. “
The Canadian government also issued travel advice for its citizens in the UK on August 7. In a statement it said: “Since July 30 2024, there have been ongoing demonstrations and violent clashes between protestors and police.” It urged Canadians to avoid areas where they are taking place, to exercise caution, follow the instructions of local authorities and monitor local media for information.
Malaysians are urged to “stay away from protest areas”. On August 4 the Malaysian High Commission issued a statement which said: “Malaysians residing in or travelling to the United Kingdom are urged to stay away from protest areas, remain vigilant and and follow the latest updates and guidance provided by local authorities.”
