The 76ers are rolling with a healthy Joel Embiid and they’ll face their biggest test against the second-seeded Knicks in the first round of the NBA playoffs that begins Saturday.
Embiid, the reigning Most Valuable Player, missed two months because of a knee injury.
Philadelphia edged the Heat 105-104 on Wednesday night in the NBA’s play-in tournament, and earned the Eastern Conference’s No. 7 seed.
The Knicks won the season series 3-1 without Embiid in the lineup.
The Sixers and Knicks will meet for the first time postseason series since New York swept Charles Barkley, Maurice Cheeks and the Sixers in 1989.
All-Star guard Jalen Brunson is averaging 35.1 points and 7.4 assists over the Knicks’ last 17 games. Josh Hart averaged 12.3 points, 14.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists while playing 39 minutes against Philadelphia this season.
The 76ers made a late push for a top-six seed in the East when Embiid returned from a knee injury. Embiid finished the season averaging 34.7 points and 11 rebounds in just 39 games.
The Sixers finished 31-8 with Embiid in the lineup and 16-27 without him this season. New York will try to contain Embiid with centers Mitchell Robinson and Isaiah Hartenstein.
