Live Travel Information Returns to Screens at London Euston Station

In response to passenger feedback, Network Rail is trialling the reintroduction of live travel information on the large advertisement screens at London Euston station.

This move brings back a clear and visible focal point for updates on train services as part of Network Rail’s five-point plan to enhance the passenger experience at one of the UK’s busiest rail hubs.

The trial will begin with testing the system on the evening of 11 December, with full activation expected by next week.

The decision to repurpose the screen follows months of complaints from passengers after the original departure boards were replaced by advertising. Travelers expressed a strong preference for a large, central display offering real-time travel updates, particularly during busy periods.

Heidi Alexander, UK Transport Secretary said:

“I’m pleased to see Network Rail taking action and making progress on its five-point plan to alleviate some of the issues faced at Euston – particularly at this time of year, when the festive period brings an increase in passengers.

“We’ve been clear the station simply hasn’t been good enough for customers, and that’s why we recently tasked Network Rail with making immediate improvements to address crowding and give passengers the experience they deserve.”

As the West Coast Main Line serves as a key route for holiday travellers, the new live updates are expected to help alleviate congestion and improve crowd management during the busy festive period

The screen trial is one of several improvements under Network Rail’s five-point plan. Other measures, such as earlier boarding for Avanti West Coast and London Northwestern Railway trains, have already received positive feedback.

Gary Walsh, Network Rail’s West Coast South Route Director said:

“After listening to our passengers, we’re pleased to launch a trial to display travel information on Euston station’s large screen this week. Our five-point plan is all about making quick and effective improvements to make journeys smoother for everyone and we’re really pleased to be able to deliver this in time for the busy festive travel period.

“While initial testing starts on Wednesday evening this week, we’re urging passengers to continue to use the screens in the middle of the concourse for accurate travel information.”

Travellers using Euston during the festive period should prepare for an exceptionally busy station due to engineering work impacting other major London routes. Passengers are encouraged to travel before 24 December or after 2 January for a smoother journey.
