Manchester United host Chelsea in a clash of traditional Premier League heavyweights this Sunday, although the match will be overshadowed to an extent by events yet to come.

Ruben Amorim’s appointment as United head coach was confirmed on Friday, but the Sporting CP boss will not take charge until Monday, November 11.

That leaves Ruud van Nistelrooy with three more games to run in an interim spell in charge that began emphatically with a 5-2 Carabao Cup win over Leicester City in midweek.

United would be happy to see Amorim enjoy the sort of start that Enzo Maresca has carved out of confusion at Stamford Bridge with Chelsea fifth in the table after taken 17 points from their opening nine games of the league season. That’s six points and nine places better off than United heading into the weekend.

Christian Eriksen withdrew from the matchday squad in midweek and misses out. Luke Shaw (calf), Tyrell Malacia (knee), Leny Yoro (foot), Mason Mount (undisclosed), Kobbie Mainoo (thigh) and Antony (ankle) all remain out.

Van Nistelrooy rotated for the midweek EFL Cup win over Leicester City and recalls his main players against Chelsea.

Eriksen is the only change from their last league outing, as Erik ten Hag departed after defeat at West Ham United, and Manuel Ugarte comes in for the Danish star.

A much-changed Chelsea side were beaten 2-0 by Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup and Maresca reverts back to his first-choice starters.

After beating Newcastle in league action last weekend the visitors name an unchanged team from that game.
