Mumbai: The city of dreams is known for its humid weather and months-long monsoon, which leaves citizens with either gloomy skies or sweltering heat. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rains have been prevailing in Mumbai due to the early southwest monsoon arrival on June 9. However, despite some relief from the heat, the city still sweats under the humidity.

A resident from Bandra says, “No matter what the weather is, I have to use an air conditioner almost 365 days of the year.”

Amid this, the news of a heatwave alert being issued for the United Kingdom, as temperatures are expected to reach 26 degrees Celsius by the month’s end, has brought humour to Mumbaikars.

A solo weather forecaster on X, Mumbai Rains (Rushikesh Agre), posted a tweet notifying followers about the heatwave alert in the UK, and many Mumbaikars jumped at this opportunity for amusement. One user said, “Mumbaikars call it winter,” while another said, “Wish we had such a 26 degrees max ‘heatwave’ in Mumbai; would literally dance with joy.” Another added a humorous joke, “At 26 degrees Celsius, Mumbaikar – Mast Mausam hai. UK – Haye ye garmi.”

While many shared amusement at this drastic difference in weather conditions, some came forward to inform that the difference between the temperatures in India and the United Kingdom is substantial. “26 degrees in the UK feels more like 40-42 degrees. It’s not comparable to Mumbai’s weather,” one user informed.

Another user remarked, “If the temperature in Russia stays at 20 degrees Celsius for a week, it will be considered a heatwave…we live near the equator so we are used to 35+ temperatures.”

UK Heatwave Alert

Forecast maps for the UK suggest that the current cold spell might end soon, bringing a 48-hour burst of sunshine with temperatures up to 26 degrees Celsius. A heatwave is expected to hit the UK by the end of June, with temperatures potentially reaching 30 degrees Celsius, as per The Mirror report.

According to WX Charts using Met Desk data, the warmest cities will include Birmingham, Cardiff, London, Manchester, and Newcastle, with the heatwave predicted from June 26 to 28.

The anticipation of warmer temperatures in the UK has sparked amusement among residents of Mumbai, who are accustomed to much higher temperatures and humidity levels.
