Get ready for an even closer look into the life of some of the NBA’s biggest stars.
Netflix Sports teased a new series titled “Starting 5” — a basketball spin-off of the streaming giant’s NFL series like “Quarterback” and “Receiver.”
“Starting 5” was filmed during the 2023-24 NBA season, following the Lakers’ LeBron James, Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards, Celtics’ Jayson Tatum, Heat’s Jimmy Butler and Kings’ Domantas Sabonis on and off the court to give fans a scope of what it’s like to be in the national spotlight.
On Tuesday, Sept. 17, Netflix Sports released the first official trailer of “Starting 5.” You can watch below along with more information on the new series.

Netflix “Starting 5,” explained
“Starting 5” is an NBA spin-off of Netflix’s popular NFL series, “Quarterback” and “Receiver.”
Fans are used to watching their favorite NBA players on the court and they get a small snapshot of their lives off the court through social media.
“Starting 5” is aimed to dive even deeper into both on- and off-court aspects of the lives of NBA stars.
It will show the day-to-day grind of the regular season with in-game trash talk and chatter but also highlight the time spent with their families and what players do to stay busy when they’re not on the floor or in the gym.

Netflix “Starting 5” cast
LeBron James, Lakers
Arguably the most famous player in NBA history, LeBron is used to being in the spotlight.
The four-time champion, 20-time All-Star and NBA’s all-time leading scorer will take center stage on “Starting 5,” giving fans a look at his process as a 39-year-old still playing at the highest level in his 21st season.
Judging by the trailer, his wife, Savannah, daughter, Zhuri, and sons, Bronny and Bryce, will get some screen time.
Anthony Edwards, Timberwolves
Edwards entered “face of the league” conversations during his breakout season last year — and for good reason.
The 23-year-old is a walking soundbite and one of the most entertaining players in the NBA. He is a two-time All-Star who has yet to scratch the surface of his potential, and he’ll let you know about it, too.
Edwards will become even more of a fan favorite once people get an inside look at his personality in “Starting 5.”
Jayson Tatum, Celtics
Tatum is a 26-year-old superstar who has made a winning impact from the second he stepped into the NBA.
He is a five-time All-Star who has earned First Team All-NBA in three consecutive seasons as he continues his ascension to becoming one of the league’s best players.
Fans will get an even closer look into the Celtics’ 2024 championship season through Tatum’s lens. His six-year-old son Deuce is sure to be a star of the show, too.
Jimmy Butler, Heat
If Edwards has the crown as the NBA’s “most entertaining player,” then Butler owns the title of the league’s “most interesting player.”
The Heat star is a fierce competitor on the court and a goofball off of it. He’s a six-time All-Star and five-time All-NBA player with a knack for stepping up in the biggest moments, earning the “Playoff Jimmy” nickname.
Come for his relentless work ethic and trash talk, but stay for his insane love for coffee and unlikely sidequests, like his feature in a “Fall Out Boy” music video.
Domantas Sabonis, Kings
Sabonis is the lesser-known of the bunch but the Kings star has developed into one of the NBA’s most skilled big men.
The son of former NBA and international basketball legend Arvydas Sabonis, Domantas is a three-time All-Star who led the league in triple-doubles last season.
The 28-year-old has bounced around from Oklahoma City to Indiana to Sacramento over his eight-year career, playing a different role in each stop along the way.
