NFL picks against the spread for Week 15

Game of Midweek

  • Rams at 49ers (-2.5, 48.5 o/u)

Thursday 8:15 p.m. ET, Amazon Prime Video

The Rams had an offensive explosion to take down the Bills at home, but because of their general youth on both sides of the ball, they can be inconsistent for Sean McVay. Kyle Shanahan’s team got its offensive groove back with Brock Purdy at home last week and will be game to light it up downfield with George Kittle and others to overcome additional running back injury woes. Shanahan has McVay’s number again in a key regular-season matchup

Pick: 49ers win 27-24 and cover the spread.

  • Game of the Week: Bills at Lions (-2, 54 o/u)

Sunday 4:25 p.m. ET, CBS

Josh Allen has been the best individual player in the NFL carrying his team. Jared Goff has been the best team player in the NFL being lifted by great support. Allen can try to take over another game, but a reeling Buffalo defense will have trouble with Detroit using the rushing attack to set up favorable downfield passing for Goff. Allen might need to operate one-dimensionally again, and that sets up a similar result for the Bills as Week 14 at the Rams.

Pick: Lions win 31-27 and cover the spread.

  • Lock of the Week: Chiefs (-5, 45 o/u) at Browns

Sunday 1 p.m. ET, CBS

The Chiefs have been considered “lucky” for winning a lot of tough one-possession games, but they also are a terrific clutch team in all three phases — which is the reason they are back-to-back Super Bowl champions. Yes, they have struggled to blow out teams, but this matchup calls for a breakout. Patrick Mahomes can exploit Cleveland’s pass defense downfield to get some big plays early and set up some domination for the running game and pass rush vs. Jameis Winston.

Pick: Chiefs win 27-10 and cover the spread.

  • Upset of the Week: Seahawks (+3, 47 o/u) over Packers

Sunday 8:20 p.m. ET, NBC/Peacock

The Seahawks’ defense is clicking well for Mike Macdonald of late, and now the running game is kicking into high gear at the right time to facilitate passing for Geno Smith. The Packers have been riding Josh Jacobs because of Jordan Love’s inconsistency. This even matchup between playoff-positioned teams goes to the home team with the loud crowd behind it in prime time.

Pick: Seahawks win 24-23.

  • Bengals (-5, 47.5 o/u) at Titans

Sunday 1 p.m. ET, Fox

The Bengals will be coming off a short week and face a familiar coach in former offensive coordinator Brian Callahan. His knowledge of his former team’s offensive tendencies, plus a pretty good defense at home, will keep this closer than expected between Joe Burrow and Will Levis. But the Bengals just have more pop in the end to be denied as they try to finish a season strong again.

Pick: Bengals win 31-27 but fail to cover the spread.

  • Commanders (-7.5, 43 o/u) at Saints

Sunday 1 p.m. ET, Fox

The Commanders will have Jayden Daniels return to the state where he was a Heisman sensation last season. They’re coming off a bye and should be able to run effectively with Daniels and a deep backfield, as well as get some big pass plays downfield. The Saints are facing more QB uncertainty and will be overwhelmed in trying to keep up.

Pick: Commanders win 27-17 and cover the spread.

MORE: Derek Carr injury update

  • Ravens (-14.5, 43.5 o/u) at Giants

Sunday 1 p.m. ET, CBS

The Ravens also have a terrific matchup after their bye, as a rested Derrick Henry can run all over this New York defense and Lamar Jackson will find plenty of downfield holes to exploit in the passing game. Look for Baltimore’s defense to improve with some adjustments, taking full advantage of facing Drew Lock.

Pick: Ravens win 34-17 and cover the spread.

MORE NFL:

Sunday 1 p.m. ET, Fox

The Cowboys are still playing hard for Mike McCarthy, and they can use this spot to get Rico Dowdle going in the running game to take pressure off Cooper Rush. The Panthers will also have a ton of trouble covering the tight ends and CeeDeee Lamb, while Bryce Young sees some pressure from Micah Parsons & Co.

Pick: Cowboys win 20-17.

Micah Parsons Dallas Cowboys
  • Jets (-3, 40.5 o/u) at Jaguars

Sunday 1 p.m. ET, Fox

The Jets got some offensive inspiration with Aaron Rodgers having his best game for New York, finally figuring out how to feed both Davante Adams and Garrett Wilson well. The Jaguars cannot cover either savvy big-play wideout. On the flip side, Mac Jones will struggle to move the ball to answer with high volume.

Pick: Jets win 24-17 and cover the spread.

NFL DRAFT NEWS:

  • Dolphins at Texans (-3, 47 o/u)

Sunday 1 p.m. ET, CBS

This is a fine matchup for Miami, as Tua Tagovailoa will get the ball out quickly to exploit a shaky Houston secondary with the red-hot trio of Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and Jonnu Smith. The Texans will need to run well to win because C.J. Stroud can be contained with his downfield passing. The Dolphins keep making a mild splash in their wild-card desperation.

Pick: Dolphins win 24-20.

  • Colts at Broncos (-4, 44 o/u)

Sunday 4:25 p.m. ET, CBS

The Colts know this is their season, as their AFC wild-card playoff hopes are contingent on beating and passing the No. 7 seed Broncos. Both teams are coming off a bye, so it will come down to which team can contain a big-armed young QB who can run. Denver’s defense is better equipped for Anthony Richardson than Indianapolis will be for Bo Nix, who is a superior rookie at home.

Pick: Broncos win 23-20 but fail to cover the spread.

  • Steelers at Eagles (-5, 43 o/u)

Sunday 4:25 p.m. ET, Fox

These teams once formed a mashup team called the “Steagles,” and this latest edition of the Keystone State Bowl will be one of the best. The Steelers have been sizzling with Russell Wilson revving up their entire offense, while Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley are taking turns leading the Eagles’ balanced, explosive attack. Hurts has a few more reliable healthy weapons to make the difference late, and Philadelphia also is the much better red-zone team.

Pick: Eagles win 27-23 but fail to cover the spread.

  • Patriots at Cardinals (-6.5, 46 o/u)

Sunday 4:25 p.m. ET, CBS

Jerod Mayo will get his team ready well after a bye, and Drake Maye should have more confidence with his passing and running. Kyler Murray is back in a strange funk, as Arizona’s offense remains inconsistent. The Cardinals’ run defense can also keep the Patriots in the game until their pass defense makes the game-changing play late vs. Maye.

Pick: Cardinals win 24-20 but fail to cover the spread.

  • Buccaneers at Chargers (-2.5, 46.5 o/u)

Sunday 4:25 p.m. ET, Fox

Baker Mayfield got sloppy last week and was fortunate the Raiders didn’t put up a fight or play any competitive defense late. He won’t be as fortunate vs. the Chargers’ pass rush after they contain the run early and contain the downfield passing game late. Jesse Minter and Liam Coen have a great defense-offense battle of wits as two future head coaches, but in the end, Justin Herbert and the Chargers have more impact personnel.

Pick: Chargers win 23-20 and cover the spread.

Justin Jefferson 110624
  • Bears at Vikings (-6.5, 44 o/u)

Monday 8 p.m. ET, ABC/ESPN+

The Bears’ offense is impossible to trust around Caleb Williams, as it’s been a mixed bag all season long no matter who’s calling the plays. The Vikings have a clear, aggressive passing identity, and Kevin O’Connell is rolling with Sam Darnold executing with his wide receivers. The Vikings keep romping to further bury a lost division foe in prime time.

Pick: Vikings win 30-14 and cover the spread.

  • Falcons (-4-5, 44 o/u) at Raiders

Monday 8:30 p.m. ET, ESPN/ABC

Kirk Cousins isn’t liking that he has struggled badly in Atlanta’s offense when not zipping passing downfield to Darnell Mooney, but he will enjoy this get-well game indoors on the road against a weak opponent — one that he will absolutely crush with big support from Bijan Robinson. The Raiders have little hope here with their QB issues.

Pick: Falcons win 27-17 and cover the spread.
