Parkinson’s UK asks golfers to tee off and host a ‘Par for Parkinson’s’ event

Parkinson’s UK is calling on golf lovers to take part in its nationwide fundraising campaign, Par for Parkinson’s, by hosting their own golf event in aid of the charity’s vital research into treatments and a cure.

Golfers of all ages and abilities can get involved by arranging their own fundraising events. T

This year’s new Par for Parkinson’s captain is Gavin Hastings (pictured above), former rugby player & Scotland and British Lions Captain. His wife Diane has been living with Parkinson’s since 2005, and he says: “I’m very proud to be the Par for Parkinson’s Golf Captain for 2024/25, as the cause is very dear to my heart. Ultimately, we need to find a cure for this condition. If you have Parkinson’s, playing golf can be a great way to relieve your symptoms, to get active and interact with your friends. There are benefits all round.

“Par for Parkinson’s events can be held anywhere. You can organise a charity golf day at your local club or take on a challenge as an individual. Just get in touch with your local community fundraiser at Parkinson’s UK, for plenty of great resources and ideas for raising money on your golf day. Together, we can make a real difference.”

Paul Jackson-Clark, Director of Fundraising & Experience at Parkinson’s UK, said: “Last year, Par for Parkinson’s events raised an incredible £196,000 with more than 125 golfers holding events. There’s no cure for Parkinson’s – yet. But playing together can make a difference to the lives of people impacted by the condition. With everyone’s help, we can make real breakthroughs and find a cure.

“Golf brings a lot of joy and benefits to people with Parkinson’s, plus it’s good fun. Being active can help manage several symptoms, from balance and strength, to coordination and bone health. The social aspect of playing together outdoors can be a big boost to people’s mental health, too.”

All golfers will receive a fundraising pack with tips and advice, sponsorship forms and some Par for Parkinson’s merchandise for their day upon request.
