Prince Harry’s potential return to the United Kingdom remains uncertain as royal author Omid Scobie suggests Meghan Markle has no intention of returning.
According to Scobie’s book Endgame, the Duchess of Sussex “never wants to step foot in England again,” as she “never really felt at home” during her time in the country.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from royal duties in 2020, relocating to Montecito, California, with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. While Harry has made several trips back to the UK, including one earlier this year to visit King Charles following his cancer diagnosis, Meghan has reportedly stayed away.
As per The Mirror, the last joint visit by the couple was in 2022 for Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral. Speculation about potential peace talks with the royal family persists, but Scobie asserts that Meghan “never wants to be involved in the British monarchy again.”
In Endgame, which delves into the current state of the monarchy, Scobie quotes Harry as saying, “I’m ready to move on past it. Whether we get an apology or accountability, who knows: who really cares at this point?” This statement underscores Harry’s willingness to reconcile, contrasting with Meghan’s alleged reluctance.
As per Express, the couple has purchased a holiday home in Portugal, which could serve as their European base. However, the eviction from Frogmore Cottage last year following Harry’s memoir Spare adds another layer of complexity to their ties with the UK.
Harry has shared that he intends to maintain connections with his family, stating during an appearance on Good Morning America, “I’ve got other trips planned. That would take me through the UK or back to the UK, so you know, I’ll stop in and see my family as much as I can.”
While Harry appears open to mending fences, Meghan’s reported unwillingness to return raises questions about the couple’s future relationship with the British royal family.
