Andrew heads Exeter, Southwell (AW) and Chelmsford (AW) for his four stats-based selections on Thursday, October 10th…

EXETER 4.08

STAR OF AFFINITY (system – Joe Tizzard, jumps handicappers, first run after a wind operation)

STAR OF AFFINITY pulled up at Stratford in May when we last saw him, but the subsequent wind operation suggests excuses that day and he showed promise in his two other starts in handicap hurdle company, finishing fourth at Plumpton and third over the extended 2m2f trip here at Exeter. The Tizzard yard does well with wind-op recipients in jumps handicaps, scoring with 15 of the 97 runners on their first start back following the surgery for a profit of £52.88 to a £1 level stake at SP. Those running on good to soft or faster going were 13 from 62 for a profit of £75.50.

SOUTHWELL 4.55

VELVET WHISPER (system – Calyx 2yos, all-weather)

Juvenile progeny of the sire Calyx have a 13 from 48 record on the all-weather and backing them blind would have returned a profit of £118.08 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 6.72, A/E = 1.93). Ed Bethell’s newcomer VELVET WHISPER is a half-sister to Chaturanga who won on his two-year-old debut, and she can follow suit. For information, there are two other qualifiers on this system today – Calaxy in the 5.30 at Southwell and Coverbridge in the 6.15 at Chelmsford.

CHELMSFORD 6.15

VILAINE VERLAINE (system – Mark Usher, nurseries)

Since the beginning of 2018, simply backing all Mark Usher-trained runners in nurseries (turf or all-weather) would have found eight winners from 57 runners for a huge profit of £155.10. VILAINE VERLAINE almost boosted those figures on her nursery debut at Yarmouth last month, going down by a neck in second at odds of 11-1, and can go one better with the switch to Polytrack unlikely to be an issue on breeding.

CHELSMFORD 7.15

G’DAAY (system – local tracks)

The Joseph Parr-trained G’DAAY seems happiest when staying close to his Newmarket base, recording form figures of 422142131156434 (4-15) when running within a 70-mile radius of home. He’s won three of his ten starts in Chelmsford handicaps and can go well again from a handy draw in stall 2.
