Ruben Amorim is under no illusions what kind of project he signed on to at Manchester United.
Following a 3-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest, the new Portuguese manager said he believes it will take time to turn the Red Devils around, but also is well aware that he needs to prove they can get results in the short-term too.
“I had this and worse at Sporting in the beginning,” Amorim said of back-to-back defeats with the Red Devils. “The feeling for me, it’s the same. For the world it is completely different, Manchester you have a lot of attention. But for me, same feeling. This will turn around.”

Amorim, however, knows it has to turn around soon for Man United to remain viable for growth in the future.
“[It was a] tough game in a tough moment but we have to continue the job,” Amorim said after the Forest defeat. “This is a long journey. We are improving in some aspects. We have to win games to help us improve the team.”
The Red Devils sit 13th in the Premier League table, an extremely poor position for one of the world’s biggest clubs. They sit 10 points above the relegation zone while they are 16 points from the top of the table.
Amorim took responsibility for some of Manchester United’s defensive failures, particularly on set pieces, having conceded a goal from a corner against Nottingham Forest.
“When it happens [a goal from a corner], it’s MY fault, because I’m responsible,” Amorim said. “We try to do it in the best way, we did a lot of work in this area because we saw it and it was really hard in this context. In the beginning of the game when you suffer in the first play, it’s hard to put energy into the team.”
