In a new interview with People magazine, Jada Pinkett Smith alleged she and Will Smith have been separated for years, following their marriage in 1992.
“We’re still figuring it out,” the actor said when asked about the state of their marriage, adding that they had been separated for six years at the time of Will’s altercation with Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards.
“We’ve been doing some really heavy-duty work together,” she continued. “We just got deep love for each other and we are going to figure out what that looks like for us.”
She added that they have no plans to legally divorce. “I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce,” she said. “We will work through whatever. And I just haven’t been able to break that promise.”
The pair have often hit headlines for their untraditional marriage, including Jada explaining during an episode of Red Table Talk how they had previously separated for a time, and she had engaged in an “entanglement” with Aslina.
Jada and Will have two children, Jaden and Willow, in addition to Smith’s son Trey from a previous relationship.
