Organisers of the Six Kings Slam tournament made a big change to the coverage after tennis fans had blasted it as ‘unwatchable’ and a ‘disaster’ due to the camera angle.
The six-player exhibition event got underway on Wednesday with Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz among the stars involved.
With a historic amount of prize money up for grabs in Riyadh, the competition sees Nadal make his penultimate appearance before he retires next month.
Nadal faced Alcaraz while Djokovic locked horns with Sinner on Thursday after the pair of Big Three legends were handed byes directly to the semi-finals.
There should be huge excitement for those matches – but tennis fans weren’t loving the early stages of the Six Kings Slam. Read on to find out why…
‘Might as well be watching from outer space’
Tennis fans pointed out the dreadful camera angle at the Six Kings Slam on X and Reddit.
Some said that it ruined the experience of watching Alcaraz’s win against Holger Rune and Sinner’s victory over Daniil Medvedev in Wednesday’s quarter-finals.
‘Terrible camera angle they chose [for] the Six Kings Slam, I’m watching the game from the sky,’ @BuloDeMouquim posted on X.
‘Alcaraz vs. Rune live. Main camera is a spider cam,’ @josemorgado added. ‘Almost unwatchable.’
‘Camera angle is a disaster,’ @Jayne71 said. ‘Might as well be watching from outer space.’
On Reddit, tennis fans shared memes, with one of a man squinting at a piece of paper and another of the Six Kings Slam camera actually appearing in space.
‘Makes it unwatchable really,’ @droidstar posted. ‘Quite disappointing that none of the team members told them how s*** this camera angle is.’
Changes were made
Organisers and broadcasters took notice of the complaints and Thursday’s semi-finals were shown from a much more palatable angle.
@Olly_Tennis_ posted: ‘The Six Kings Slam changing the camera angle because of yesterday’s complaints 🤌🤌🤌’
