A nationwide issue with Border Force e-gates has caused significant disruption at airports across the country.

All airports in the country are believed to be impacted by the problem, with images and footage shared on social media on Tuesday evening showing long queues forming. 

A Heathrow Airport spokesman said: “We are aware that Border Force is currently experiencing a nationwide issue. Our teams are supporting Border Force with their contingency plans to help resolve the problem as quickly as possible and we apologise for any impact.”

Passports are being checked manually at some airports.
