The Cavaliers-Magic series, a rollercoaster of unpredictability, continued Friday night in Orlando, as the Magic defied expectations and stole Game 6 in front of a sold-out Kia Center, 103-96. Looking at the box score, the assumption arguably could have been made the Cavaliers had done enough to win thanks to Donovan Mitchell’s 50-point outing, but it wasn’t enough.
Both teams battled fiercely for 48 minutes, but the Magic’s unsung hero, Paolo Banchero, emerged as the game-changer. In a testament to the power of determination, he scored a crucial 10 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter, including a critical bucket late that sealed the Cavaliers’ fate and secured the Magic’s win.
The Cavaliers failed to get hot from behind the 3-point arc, something they had done terrifically in each of the three wins in the series, just going 7-for-28 (25 percent). Meanwhile, the Magic saw their offensive efficiency pay off when it mattered most, finishing 22-of-26 from the free-throw line and out-rebounding the Cavaliers on the glass, 15-7.
With the Magic’s win, the series shifts back to Ohio for Game 7. The Magic fell flat in Game 1 and Game 2, getting outscored a combined 193-169. Game 5 could have been better for Orlando, as the Cavaliers won in a rout, 121-83.
Nevertheless, it’s a high-stakes, winner-take-all situation. Will the trend of the home team winning every game continue, or will the Magic end the narrative and upset the Cavaliers in the process? The winner of the series will face the top-seeded Celtics.
Here is everything you need to know about Game 7: tip times, tickets, betting odds, television designations, and more.
