The defending champs are one win away from the Western Conference Finals after defeating the Timberwolves, 112-97, on Tuesday night in Game 5. Nikola Jokic shone, and Denver managed to shut down Anthony Edwards in the victory, pushing the series to 3-2.
Jokic scored 40 points and had 13 rebounds, and Aaron Gordon also had a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds. Christian Braun scored 10 off the bench, and the Nuggets shot almost 50 percent from beyond the arc while shutting down the Minnesota offense.
Denver held Edwards to 18 points and nine assists, and Karl-Anthony Towns led the Wolves with 23 points of his own. Rudy Gobert had a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds with two steals and two blocks.
Edwards and Towns will have to perform at their best offensively in order to outscore the Nuggets, and Gobert must continue to work on shutting down Jokic. That being said, there’s little one can do to stop the three-time MVP. Minnesota has one shot at home to even the series, or Denver will come out of Minneapolis with a ticket to the next round.
