The Mavericks now sit in control of their Western Conference semifinal series after taking Game 3 at home against Oklahoma City on Saturday with a 105-101 victory.
P.J. Washington stepped up in a big way for the second game in a row, dropping a team-high 27 points on an 11-of-23 shooting effort, while making five shots from downtown. He came out the gates firing, scoring 19 in the first half.
Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving dropped 22 points apiece, doing most of their work in the second half, putting Dallas at 5-2 this postseason when each member of the superstar duo surpasses the 20-point plateau. Rookie big man Dereck Lively II also was a major contributor, finishing with 12 points and eight rebounds while going 5-of-8 from the line in the fourth quarter.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander continued being a consistent producer in multiple categories for the Thunder, posting a 31-point, 10-rebound double-double while dishing out six assists and blocking five shots.
The Thunder put up a much tougher fight than in Game 2 and went into halftime up 52-51. Oklahoma City forced a ton of turnovers but couldn’t convert them into many points, only getting 10 off of Dallas’ miscues while the Mavericks put together 18 points off turnovers.
Can Dallas finish protect home court again? Or will the Thunder reclaim momentum and even things up before heading back to Oklahoma City?
