New Delhi: Muslims across the world are waiting for the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon which will decide the day of Eid-ul-Fitr 2024. In India, if the crescent moon is visible on Monday evening (April 9), Eid will be celebrated on April 10th and if the moon is sighted on April 10, Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed on April 11, marking the end of the holy month of Ramazan.
Notably, the date of Eid al-Fitr depends on the lunar calendar, which follows the moon’s cycle.
Eid-ul-Fitr 2024 Timing In Saudi Arabia
The Saudi Meteorology has issued a statement saying that visibility will not be good for seeing the Shawwal crescent in Central regions, Sudair and Tumair due to heavy clouds. “Today, the weather is suitable for observing the Eid al-Fitr crescent in the north and west of the Kingdom,” it added.
Notably, the Middle East, USA, UK, Canada etc began observing the fast on March 11, 2024 and the Saudi Arabia Supreme Court has called upon all Muslims in the country to observe the crescent moon on the evening of April 8th, 2024. If visible, it will mark the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Shawwal, with Eid al-Fitr celebrations that will commence on April 9th.
If the Shawwal crescent moon is sighted by Muslims in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Egypt, Turkey, Iran, United Kingdom and other countries in the Middle East and West on April 8, chand raat there will be on Monday, April 8 and the day of Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated the next day i.e. on April 09, 2024.
As per the astronomers’ predictions, it is very likely that Ramazan this year will be of 30 days, which is usually observed for 29 days.
