Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving decided to take turns terrorizing the Timberwolves’ defense in the Mavericks’ 108-105 win Wednesday night.
In the first half of Game 1, Irving totaled 24 points on 11-of-14 shooting to prevent Minnesota from creating any separation. Doncic grabbed the baton from Irving in the second half, racking up 19 points on 6-of-12 shooting over the final 24 minutes. Overall, Doncic and Irving scored 63 of Dallas’ 108 points and dished out 12 of the team’s 21 assists.
The Timberwolves’ stars, on the other hand, struggled to find a rhythm throughout the series opener. Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns connected on just 12 of their 36 total field goal attempts (33.3 percent), finishing with a combined 35 points.
“We came out flat today. We found our energy, then we went back to being flat,” Edwards said. “I think it was just on us. Everything was on us today.”
Now, the Wolves must rediscover the energy that brought them to this stage of the NBA Playoffs. If Minnesota can’t find its form, Dallas could be heading back home with a 2-0 lead.
