Why Manchester United could cash in on Alejandro Garnacho in January | Sporting News United Kingdom

Manchester United are reportedly weighing up a significant transfer decision involving one of their brightest homegrown talents, Alejandro Garnacho.

With the January transfer window approaching, Garnacho’s future at Old Trafford seems less secure than many fans might have expected.

Ruben Amorim, the club’s relatively new head coach, has seen mixed results since taking charge.

While there have been moments of promise, back-to-back losses to Arsenal and Nottingham Forest in the Premier League have highlighted areas for improvement.

To strengthen the squad, United may need to offload players, and Garnacho’s name has reportedly entered the discussion.

At just 20 years old, Garnacho has shown flashes of brilliance during his time with the first team. However, under Amorim’s leadership, the winger has struggled to replicate the form that made him a key player under former manager Erik ten Hag.

In recent matches, his playing time has diminished, with the young Argentine failing to complete more than 59 minutes in any of the last four games.

Why Man Utd could be interested in selling Garnacho

According to reports (via Daily Mail), United would consider selling Garnacho for a fee in the region of £39 million.

This valuation reflects both his potential and his status as a homegrown player, which adds value under Premier League financial regulations.

Thus, the Red Devils will gain a direct profit if they sell Alejandro Garnacho as the 20-year-old is a Man Utd academy product.

Garnacho has already made 110 appearances for the Red Devils, contributing 23 goals and 13 assists. These numbers, combined with his age and potential, could make him an appealing target for high-profile clubs.

Despite a quieter season so far, his experience on the international stage with Argentina, including participation in the Copa America, adds to his appeal.

Could Marcus Rashford leave Man United in January too?

United are also said to be open to offers for Marcus Rashford, another homegrown star. However, Garnacho’s lower wages and younger age may make him the more attractive option for interested clubs.

As United plans for the future, the decision to part ways with Garnacho could be crucial in funding new arrivals to bolster Amorim’s squad.

Whether the club opts to sell remains to be seen, but January could bring significant changes to Old Trafford.
